Description

Football is based on moving the ball down the field. In Hank Stram’s sagacious words, “We need to matriculate the ball down the field.” Well, nobody was better at helping his team move down the field than Jerry Rice. The holder of virtually every major receiving record, Rice set the standard for the wideout position. His touchdown record (197) should stand through the lifetime of anybody reading this description.

Offered is a ball commemorating the game from when Rice corralled his 127th career touchdown which unseated Jim Brown as the all-time touchdown leader. We cannot confirm that this is the ball Rice caught during the record-setting performance or if the ball was used in the game. Rice hauled in the record-breaking pass on Sept. 5, 1999, in front of a Monday Night Football audience.

One entire panel is painted in white with “Jerry Rice 127 NFL Touchdown Scoring Record, 49ers 44 … Raiders 14 Sept. 5, 1999 Candlestick Park.” Rice then signed the ball on the corner of the painted side in black felt tip.
