It would take volumes to describe what Jerry Rice has meant to the game. The incomparable Rice virtually reset the record books for wide receivers. When discussing the best player to ever play, Rice isn’t far from the top. Presented is a jersey Rice wore when he was with the 49ers in 1997-98 era.
This jersey was obtained directly from the Larry Kirksey. In 1994, Kirksey began his NFL career coaching the NFL’s all-time reception and receiving yards leader, Jerry Rice. Under Kirksey, Rice set a then-NFL record with 1,848 receiving yards and had a career-high 122 receptions in 1995. From 1994 to 1999, Rice caught 606 passes for 6,666 yards. Kirksey’s receivers helped set a Super Bowl record in Super Bowl XXIX with six touchdown catches, including three by Rice.
With such Iron Clad provenance we can further describe in detail the jersey specifications.
It’s a San Francisco game used 49ers Reebok home red (size) “46” jersey. The front tail tagging shows it’s Pro Line Reebok San Francisco 49ers Authentic . Additional tagging in the collar shows that it is – Reebok / [size] 46 with 100% Nylon flap flanking the bottom. The jersey proper identifiers with “80” on the front and back sewn-on in multi-layered shadow style tackle-twill. “RICE” is placed on a nameplate on the verso.
Overall, the jersey shows definite game use with soiling on the front numerals (on “0” most noticeable) and thread fraying throughout. A photo style match will attend from the game hosted against the Indianapolis Colts on 10/18/1998. More than likely, due to the diagonal dirt marks on the front (#0) it is a match to this game but over time the remnants have faded (from wash etc.).
The jersey was signed recently at a TriStar signing (3/12/17) vertically on the back “0” in black felt tip along with the inscription “G.O.A.T.” (Greatest of All Time) on the opposite side. A photo from the signing will attend.
Our Team has graded this jersey 17/20.
