Description

Among other things, tennis great Jimmy Connors brought unparalleled theatrics to the court. The highly competitive and controversial Illinois native wore this colorful polo shirt in the 1989 U.S. Open. This tournament marked Connors’ 20th such appearance, and he didn’t disappoint. Connors ignited the crowd with a fourth-round upset of Stefan Edberg before losing in the quarter-finals. He used a blue felt tip to pen an “8” signature on the front of the garment, which shows signs of use. A Slazenger (blue cat) logo and “JC” initials have been embroidered on the left sleeve. “Jimmy Connors” is featured as a repeated pattern around the neckline, and an oversized Connors logo is printed vibrantly on the back.
