Presented is an original ink caricature that depicts Joe DiMaggio in a Yankees uniform leaving to play a game while a young woman tries to convince him to stay. The captions make reference to the injury DiMaggio suffered when a heated wrap was left on his foot for too long and burned him in 1936. It was signed by the artist Gus Uhlman at the bottom and at the top with the salutation, “To Joe DiMaggio- Keep hitting from NY Post Sports Staff, Hugh Bradley and Gus Uhlman.” 11″x16″: EX was one of Joe’s most significant injuries during his early playing career: VG-NM . This foot injury was also mentioned in the book by Richard Ben Cramer titled Joe DiMaggio The Hero’s Life on page 85 (book included). This was actually created for DiMaggio specifically.
