John F. Kennedy was one of the most popular presidents ever to take office. He had the look, name and composure to go with it. The youngest president to ever take office, and then, the youngest to die in office, the memory of JFK will always have a place in the hearts of Americans. His presidency was immensely popular, glamorous and tragic.
The dark day in U.S. history happened on November 22, 1963 when Kennedy was killed. The world stopped in wait, anxious eagerness for more information spread across the wire.
Presented is a unique display with a rare autograph of President Kennedy. It is scarce indeed to find a signature from his Presidency as most on the market come from his time as a Massachusetts Senator.
Presumably, the request was made on the fly as he was a busy man. And in order to oblige the request, Kennedy grabbed an available common resource back in the day, a matchbook (2″ x 4″). But this is not just an ordinary matchbook. In true Presidential fashion, it reads, “The President’s House” on the cover portion. With this acknowledgement, he signed it in his distinctive handwriting in black ballpoint (“10″) on the opposite side. Of course, the signature displays prominently in the central portion of the display as it should.
The attractive display (28″ 32”) along with complimentary items (photo, seal, plaque) also features an invitation to the “Texas Welcome Dinner” for JFK & LBJ that was supposed to be held in Austin on that dire evening (of November 22, 1963). It was matted within the display measuring 5.5″ x 8″. Overall, the display is a salute within top tier Presidential autographs.
