Jonathan Woodgate signed for Real Madrid in August 2004 for a transfer fee of £13.4 million. This was to the surprise of many in the football world, due to his frequent absences through injury at his previous clubs, and indeed he was injured at the time of the transfer. Woodgate did not make any appearances for Real Madrid in his first season in Spain, eventually making his debut on 22 September 2005, in a league match against Athletic Bilbao. The game did not go well for him, as he scored an own goal and was later sent off for a second bookable offence. He scored his only goal for Real Madrid by heading the equaliser in the 4–1 UEFA Champions League defeat of Rosenborg BK on October, his first appearance for the club in European competition.
Presented is one of his game worn Real Madrid jerseys from 2005-06. It’s an Adidas Formotion with [size] L printing in the collar and interior tagging with coding: 04/05 – 109877 – APU002 – . The front features a printed SIEMENS logo and sewn on stitched Real Madrid crest and Adidas logo. It was autographed on the front by Woodgate in black felt tip (“9”). Also of note, the shirt shows nice wear throughout with blue transfer markings on the chest near the collar.
