The rarest of rare! The actual winning trophy from the 1986 Breeders Cup Distaff given to the owner in the winner’s circle. This trophy was from the great Champion, Horse of the Year and Hall of Famer, Lady’s Secret and came from the collection of his owner, Eugene Klein. Unlike the jockey or trainer trophies that surface once a decade, you never see a trophy from the Breeders Cup champion owner and certainly no other Breeders Cup owner trophies from a Hall of Famer has never come available. Also, unlike the jockey and trainer trophies that stands only a few inches tall and weigha less than a pound; the owner trophy is almost 14 inches tall and weighs nearly 20 pounds! A few years back a Ferdinand Breeders Cup trophy was offered and became one of the few opportunities ever to buy an owner’s BC trophy and it went for over $20,000.
“Lady’s Secret” was an Eclipse Award-winning thoroughbred race mare that was listed in the “Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century.” She was bred by Robert H. Spreen at Lucas Farm in Oklahoma and then sold for $200,000 to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Klein. Her longtime trainer was U.S. Racing Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas. She was a small horse and weighed no more than about 900 pounds. Always a front runner, she won 25 of her 45 races and had nine second-place finishes. As the daughter of Triple Crown winner Secretariat, she dominated the fillies she raced against and was also competitive against males.
Like many of the BC trophies, the horse on top has a little wiggle to it caused by the one heel having a little lag to it but otherwise is in excellent condition. See pictures. Winning bidder also receives a large photo from the winner’s circle showing this magnificent trophy being awarded to Mr. Klein.
