The Converse Weapon was launched in 1986 and was the first shoe to be personalized. The company used the Magic Johnson and Larry Bird rivalry to introduce the personal styles. The Magic Johnson shoe was in Lakers purple, gold, and white. On the opposite side, the Larry Bird shoe was understated by being simply black and white.
Larry Bird came around at the right time for the Boston Celtics. An organization that had flourished over the years, Boston suffered a downward trend in the late ’70s. Enter Larry Joe Bird. The sharpshooting assassin changed the team’s fortunes during his first year in the league.
Bird wore this pair of Classic & Iconic Converse All-Star Weapons during his career with the Celtics. They exhibiting solid wear from games on the famed Boston Garden parquet. They no longer have the size tag present, but definitely measure to Bird’s typical size (bottom of soles measure 13.5″ long). The shoes do have some mild flaking in the interior on the leather portion typical of the age.
Bird signed the sides (white logo) of both sneakers in black felt tip (“7-8” mild hand transfer). Imagine how many 3-pointers Bird drained wearing these? A tremendous representation honoring the hick from French Lick. The best part is the provenance. They come directly from NBA source and include the original box from when Bird gave them to them.
