Late ’40s Gil Hodges Game-Worn Brooklyn Dodgers Rookie Era Flannel Jersey

Gil Hodges' 18 Major League seasons and subsequent managerial career place him in the deserved company of baseball greats, whether the Hall acknowledges his contributions to the game or not. He anchored the Brooklyn Dodgers' infield on six pennant winners, and was instrumental in capturing the franchise's first championship in 1955 by knocking in the game-winning run in Game 7 against the Yankees. He further endeared himself to the hearts of New Yorkers when, as manager, he guided the Miracle Mets to their first ever championship.
Very few Brooklyn Dodger flannels have survived from this period as they were usually relegated to minor league teams in the Dodger system (or other youth squads) and never seen again. Now available for the reader's consideration is a late 1940s, rookie era, Gil Hodges home flannel jersey. This extremely early representation is vintage Brooklyn. Six of the seven buttons are original – as is the felt Dodgers script font. The outline of the original "14" is still visible on the back, beneath a royal blue felt replacement "34."
The inner collar holds a period Spalding label sewn in tandem with a size "44" and dry clean labels. A royal blue chain link stitch name identifier ("Hodges") atop a felt swatch remains firmly and completely intact.
Minor back collar staining is evident, but the jersey is eminently displayable from the front. A beautiful and important relic from a man who remains one of the most beloved and admired players in franchise, nay, baseball, history.
