Lázaro Valle was a long-time star pitcher in Cuba. Valle started his career as an outfielder in the early 1980s, spending two seasons in the Cuban Series Nacional. He did not succeed in that role and became a pitcher, where he first hit in big in the 1988 Selective Series, leading the league with ten wins for Habana. He made his Cuban national team debut in the 1988 Baseball World Cup, going 2-0 with a 1.85 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 24 1/3 IP. Valle along with the Cuban team was awarded a Gold Medal.
La Habana was a baseball team in the Cuban National Series up to 2010. Representing the former La Habana Province, the Vaqueros won their first ever National Series in 2009, and reached the National Series final against Santiago de Cuba in 2004-05.
Presented is a Valle game worn jersey from his time with La Habana. The grey jersey features the front team logo Habana on the chest sewn-on in blue tackle twill. The back has his name Valle in blue tackle twill. The verso also has his number “21″ sewn on in blue tackle twill. There is a small manufacturer tag for inspection in the inside seam. The jersey shows heavy wear throughout with loose threads, soiling and sweat stains. The jersey was signed by Valle who added a lengthy Spanish inscription in blue felt tip (“9”).
