Description
Amassed from a large collection of single-signed baseballs comes this treasure. The Baseball Hall of Fame is reserved for only the best of the best in the game and Leon Day was no exception. Leon Day was a right-handed pitcher in the Negro Leagues. He played for many teams including the Baltimore Black Sox, the Brooklyn/Newark Eagles and the Baltimore Elite Giants.
“The Negro leagues’ outstanding strikeout pitcher with a dominating fastball and wicked curve, quite Leon Day was a mainstay of the Newark pitching staff in the late 1930s and ’40s. Also a superb contact hitter and speedy baserunner, Day was versatile enough to play second base or the outfield when he wasn’t pitching. He spent tow years pitching on integrated Army teams during World War II, and in his first game back with the Eagles in 1946, he tossed a no-hitter against the Philadelphia Stars.”
Day was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995 by the Veterans Committee.
His legacy will be surly be remembered through pastime stories and mementos he inked for fans. Presented is a ONL (White) baseball autographed by Day non the sweet spot in blue ballpoint pen (“9”).
