Lightsaber Signed by Mark Hamill & David Prowse Star Wars Folmer Graflex 3 Cell – COA BAS

Arguably the most iconic prop from the Star Wars universe is… a camera flash. It’s not a joke, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader’s lightsabers (the handle, not the glowing, cut your hand off part) were both made from vintage camera flash guns.

Due in part to Star Wars‘ minuscule budget, set director Roger Christian had to scour antique dealers and thrift shops for prop ideas, and that shop in London is where he found a 1940s Graflex camera with a 3-cell flash gun attached. The flash gun, with only minor modifications, would become Luke’s iconic lightsaber.

Presented is one of those iconic lightsabers. Well, the main components anyway. It is an original Folmer Graflex camera 3 cell flash handle. It is the same model the Star Wars set director and prop department used to create an authentic Star Wars lightsaber.

It is an original vintage item and not a reproduction. It reads on the handle, “GRAFLEX” and is the “3 CELL” model.  It has the original glass lens and red button (often missing). There are no internal components and it is in great shape for its age with only minor handling wear.

The highlight was that it was autographed on the handle by both sides of the force – Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Or in real life the actors, David Prowse signed in blue felt tip (“7-8”) adding, “THE FORCE IS STRONG IN YOU – DARTH VADER.” Mark Hamill signed the lightsaber in black felt tip (“8-9”) with the inscription, “MAY YOUR AIM BE TRUE!”
