Description

Marilyn Charlotte Jones [Doxey] nickname “Jonesy” was an American pitcher and catcher who played Battle Creek Belles from 1948 through 1954 in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, she batted and threw right-handed.  In 1988 she became part of Women in Baseball, a permanent display based at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.

The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) was a professional women’s baseball league founded by Philip K. Wrigley which existed from 1943 to 1954. The AAGPBL is the forerunner of women’s professional league sports in the United States. Over 600 women played in the league. It was not really a well-known fact until filmmaker Penny Marshall premiered her 1992 film A League of Their Own, which was a fictionalized account of activities in the AAGPBL.

Presented is an OML (Selig) baseball autographed by Marilyn C. Jones.  She signed (Hall of fame 1988 Marilyn “Jonesy” Jones) on the sweet spot in a blue ballpoint pen (“9”).  The ball itself shows toning from age.
