This 11″ X 14″ silver gelatin print was hand -developed as part of a Limited Edition of 50 prints (10/50) by the Estate of Andre de Dienes in 1955 and bears the estates backstamp. This photo was printed from the same original negative once owned by Hugh Hefner and sold for $5,500 at Christie’s auction on Dec 17, 2003 in New York City (appeared on page 61 of Christie’s catalogue). The photo was taken in 1953 at Marilyn’s Bel Air bungalow. It first appeared in Playboy magazine in the December 1960 edition on page 58. Provenance: Artist Estate. Andre de Dienes’ association with Marilyn began in 1945 when he hired her as a model. This was her first modeling job. She was 19 at the time. They went a five-week road trip and Andre photographed her across California, Nevada, and New Mexico. The excursion resulted in a love affair and many magazine cover photos around the world. Their personal relationship soon faded but their working relationship continued. Today de Daines’ photographs are considered to be the best studies ever taken of Monroe. Andre de Dienes’ portfolio also includes Marlon Brando, Ronald Reagan, Elizabeth Taylor, Ingrid Bergman, Jane Russell and many more. His professional work has appeared many times in Esquire, Vogue, and Life magazines. This superb photograph of Marilyn Monroe is signed on the back by Shirley de Dienes. This image is an “Authentic Edition” from OneWest Publishing.
