Massive 1940 White Sox George Burke Presentation Photo.

Stunning and vintage 16 x 20 inch trophy depicting the 1940 Chicago White Sox, a talented 82-72 club whose roster included major stars of the era and Hall of Famers Ted Lyons and Luke Appling. It’s a beautiful, wonderful presentation, and no wonder – the photographer and artist is the celebrated George Burke, undoubtedly the most talented and collected sports photographer of the 20th century. His work has been treasured by ballplayers and collectors for decades, as his poignant images seem to magically capture the personal essence of his subjects and era like no other before or after him, and genuine pieces of this extraordinary size and format command substantial premiums relative to Burke’s standard (and normal for the era) 5 x 7 portraits. A genuine rarity on that basis alone. Likely created for an executive or the team offices, this museum-quality image exceeds all expectations for team-photography, with subtle sepia-tones and composition nuances readily identifiable as pure Burke. Photograph features full in-negative title and roster, and well as all-important “Geo Burke Photo” in lower right. Some crazing and nicks at borders but irrelevant in terms of a unique important gem such as this. Professionally framed and matted in charcoal grey for optimum display, and 20″ x 24″ overall.
