1939- May 30th NY Yanks vs Red Sox Ted Williams Rookie Standout
Out of stock
Presented is a rare score card from Ted Williams’ rookie season. The booklet was folded centrally and is not scored. There was a double header on May 30. 1939 at Fenway. Williams did manage to hit a home run in the first game with the Sox winning 7-3. The second game was won by the Yankees 9-3.
A fun recap of the first game is as follows from one of the provided news clippings:
“Thanks to more excellent pitching by that Old Master, Lefty Grove, and to home runs by Skipper Joe Cronin and Thumping Theodore Williams the Red Sox were able to win a second game in a row from the Yankees yesterday, a feat that has been done only once before this year. With Grove holding them to six hits, the Sox won the first game of the twin bill, 7 to 3. In the second game, it was as much the fact that the Sox could not successfully hit Bump Hadley as it was the Sox pitching failed to function, and the Yankees won out, 9 to 3. A crowd of 35,000 crowded the park for the bargain matinee. “
