They don’t make limited-edition watches quite like this vintage 18-karet gold model, which pictures The Mick in his right-handed batting pose. The significant Mantle collectible is in near virgin condition, includes a geniune leather wrist band, and it’s believed to be in perfect working condition. The story behind the piece of jewelry is as intriguing as the subject himself. The sponsor originally planned to make 536 such pieces – or one for every home run that Mantle struck in his Hall-of-Fame career – which was advertised in various sporting publications. Because of its pricey nature, however, the project was suspended. This example is No. 130 of an unknown quantity. The timepiece includes its original (and very well-engineered) presentation case.  It comes from Mantle’s business partner’s collection and a LOA from him.
