Mickey Mantle Signed Wire Photo

Out of stock

SKU: 8662 Category:

This magnificent piece, obtained directly from The Mickey Mantle Museum, is an original wire photo dated December 16, 1951. A very significant piece, it pictures the Mick after his rookie season having suffered an injury in Game 2 of the World Series. As the story goes, Mantle got his foot caught on the wooden cover of a drainage outlet, after pulling up awkwardly on a ball that was caught by Joe DiMaggio. Fabulous piece is complemented by a superb Mantle signature in solid blue Sharpie. The caption attached to back reads: “New York Yankee rookie Mickey Mantle is being fitted out with weighted boot by attendant at Lenox hospital, New York. The boot is designed to aid Mantle’s recovery from injury to his right knee received in second game of the 1951 World Series against New York Giants.” Framed and matted to 11 1/2″ x 12″.
