Description
By the time he broke this Worth bat, Mike Schmidt was already assured a date with Cooperstown. This 35″, 30.5 oz. piece bears the model “WC138” stamped on the knob. There, too, we find the expected “20” in felt tip. Schmidt signed the bat’s barrel in blue Sharpie and that autograph projects at a strength of “5”. The bat is characterized by abundant evidence of game use to include ball and stitch marks as well as green and red bat rack marks. A moderate application of pine tar coats the upper handle. The central feature of this gem, however, is that it bears, directly above the “Worth” label, the hand-written notations, “510 511.” This bat was also used by Schmidt to crack his 2,000th hit. Accomplished game-used bat collectors recognize that these numbers, placed by this style, was typical for Schmidt as he chronicled his career home run totals. A little arithmetic determines then that the bat dates to the early 1987 season. PSA gave this historic bat a grade of (“6”).
