Regarded by many in the sport as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, Monica Seles was named one of the “30 Legends of Women’s Tennis: Past, Present and Future” by Time. Several players and historians have stated that Seles had the potential to become the most accomplished female player of all time had she not been stabbed. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2009.
Presented is a tennis racket that was used by Monica Seles during the 2001 US Open. It is her custom made green/black/silver racket is a Yonex Ultimum RQ 2000 Long. The racket shows tremendous wear with scuff marks throughout and is missing strings. The handle tape also shows extensive wear as it is pilling. Yellow shop coding/tape is also present in the interior from when it was repaired. Photo style matches are available on Getty images with one being 51984113.
Provenance letter is from a former professional tennis player who stated:
“I obtained this Monica Seles match used racquet at the US OPEN where she handed me this racquet after the match. I owas her hitting partner for the 2000 FED CUP Tournament in Las Vegas.”
