The greatest man ever to wear a Tuf-Wear glove, Muhammad Ali signed and and dated (“Nov 19-19-84″) this one. It features a broad 6” length full signature in bold black felt tip endorsement in perfect contrast on the red mitt. It was autographed at the Downtown Athletic Club in NYC. Ali was the guest of honor at the annual DAC boxing event held every November.

Of note, Coach Edward Weichers who was in town coaching the Air Force Academy team originally had Ali signed this glove in blue ballpoint pen. It did not come out great, so the Coach had him resign it in in black felt tip. Ali was happy to sign it and this time it was “10”. Of note, this is an early clear autograph of Ali from 1984 before his condition worsened.

This item originates from the Edward Weichers collection. He was the head boxing coach at the United States Air Force Academy from 1976-2014. He led the Academy’s boxing team to 19 national collegiate boxing championships, making it the most successful collegiate program in the United States (the second most successful program has only 6 national championships as of April 2014 in comparison).  He was selected to coach the Australian Olympic Boxing team, which competed in the 1984 games in Los Angeles. He also served as trainer and coach for Australia’s professional world champions, Jeff Fenech and Jeff Harding. He was also the Head Coach USA World Series of Boxing in 2015 and served as president and vice-president of the (NCBA).
