Description

Considered one of the top “pop” artists in the world, Steve Kaufman’s canvases should instantly bring to mind the work of the most famous pop artist of all time, Andy Warhol. This is no coincidence. For the better part of a decade, the young Kaufman was a friend and apprentice of the great Warhol, gaining such trust from both the artist and his supporters that Kaufman finished a number of Warhol’s incomplete commissions after his passing.

Presented is Kaufman’s ode to Marilyn Monroe in the form of an original oil painting. Yes, the painting was inspired by the iconic image in Monroe’s nude calendar photo shoot that was used in Playboy Magazine.  The artwork sports a variety of colors including deep red tones throughout her portrait. The Estate of Marilyn Monroe authorized this work and Kaufman’s signature “SAK” is on the verso in black felt tip. The brilliance of the composition is bolstered by the work’s enormous size, a stirring 51″ x 58″ (1.75″ thick). The highlight is that is was also autographed by the man that put her at the forefront of American pop culture with her nudity, Hugh Hefner (he was also one of her biggest fans). “Hef” signed it boldly in black felt tip (“9”) with the inscription, “She is the stuff that dreams are made of.”  Overall, one of the finest tributes to this iconic blonde bombshell. But don’t take our word for it-the image speaks for itself.
