The Liga de Béisbol in Puerto Rico reduced the season to sixty games in 1975-76. Roger Moret and Gilberto Rondón served as Cangrejeros de Santurce main players, while Rubén Gómez and Juan Pizarro played another year. Juan Beníquez and Sandy Alomar, Sr. complimented them. Santurce was able to clinch the final playoff berth, defeating the Leones in a series. The Cangrejeros advanced to the semifinals, losing a seven-game series against the Criollos. Pizarro played his final season with the team on 1976-77, while Gómez was signed to the Vaqueros. He, Moret, Rondón, Ramón Hernández and Esteban Texidor were the team’s main figures. The Cangrejeros finished in the fourth place of the regular season standing. The team lost its semifinal to Caguas in six games. Despite having a lineup that included Alomar, Ismael Oquendo, Ruiz, Beníquez and Puchy Delgado among others, Santurce failed to qualify to the post-season in 1977-78.

Orlando Cepeda is a Puerto Rican former Major League Baseball first baseman and a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The 1958 National League Rookie of the Year, Cepeda was voted the NL MVP in 1967, the year his team, the St. Louis Cardinals, won the World Series. Overall, he appeared in three World Series and was the first winner of the AL Outstanding Designated Hitter Award in 1973. He batted .300 or better 9 times in the 14 seasons he appeared in over 100 games, much of it played in what is now called the “Second Deadball Era.

Presented is a game worn Oralndo Cepeda Santurce jersey. More than likely, he wore this as a coach. The white pullover jersey features the front team logo on the chest sewn-on in navy blue. The sleeve has a circular patch screened-on as an identifier. The back has a nameplate screened-on with the EASTERN lettering in navy blue.  There is a Wilson tag that dates to 1974-1977  in the collar with the size 42 and wash instructions. The jersey shows heavy wear throughout with loose threads and soiling. Cepeda signed both the front and back in blue felt tip for added value and dated the back 10/3/93.  Overall, a nice jersey from a Puerto Rican player.
