Description
To some Dennis Finfrock was simply the man with the handlebar mustache. But Finfrock helped take boxing in Las Vegas to the next level. As the MGM Grand’s VP of Special Events, Finfrock managed what boxing matches would come to the MGM and also brought in the Rolling Stones, Barbra Streisand and countless other show stoppers to the area. After Mike Tyson was released from jail, it was Finfrock who inked him to a $20 million dollar deal which secured Iron Mike’s services at the MGM Grand.
In 1995 the Las Vegas Sun ranked the top 10 Las Vegas sports figures, Finfrock was the runaway choice at No. 1. He was placed above such notables as Bob Arum and Andre Agassi. Now battling Parkinson’s Disease, Finfrock has slowed down from his workaholic ways.
Each of the signatures or match-used mementos was obtained by Finfrock during his days working at the MGM Grand Garden. AMI is proud to present personal treasures from Finfrock’s collection. These have never been offered for public sale until now.
This very chair was the one which Oscar De La Hoya sat in when he was in between rounds of his title fight with Jimmi Bredahl March 5, 1994. This was the first time De La Hoya won a championship as he unseated Bredahl for the WBO Super Featherweight Title.
The stool shows light wear and includes a heavy coating of varnish. De La Hoya signed the front in red felt tip and inscribed "World Champion." The penning rates "6".
The provenance is impeccable as a letter from Finfrock, on MGM stationery will attend. The letter states: This untorn ticket is signed by Oscar De La Hoya that same night as he signed the stool he sat on at the Grand Olympic Auditorium (Mar. 5, 1994) immediately after the fight in his dressing room." Witnessed by Daren Liborotti and Dennis Finfrock."
As previously mentioned, De La Hoya signed a Ticketmaster ducat in purple felt tip and inscribed "94." This wooden stool belongs in a boxing Hall of Fame. Imagine the knowledge instilled in the Golden Boy or thoughts which went through his mind when he sat in this very stool. A truly historic relic attributed to the one and only De La Hoya.
