Description

Time-capsule examples of two very desirable oversized barback figures produced to promote the “Smooth As Silk” wares of Kessler Whiskey, circa 1960-62. Obtained from a liquor distributor of the era, these beauties had literally never seen the light of day and were only recently unpacked after sitting in storage for 40+ years. This pair of hand-painted plaster/composition figures depict a 19th-century base ball and football player, and stand over a foot high, with the baseball player measuring about two inches higher than his companion. Each is extremely detailed, gloriously colorful and as the image suggests, incredibly glossy and clean. Even the bottoms of the bases are bright white, and stamped “Designed and Mfg by the Mattel Advertising Display Co., Louisville.” With the exception of a tiny tic on the ballplayer’s nose, these two fresh-from-the-factory figures are the definition of “mint.” For condition junkies and vintage display addicts, this is an exciting find. No better examples could exist.
