Phil Cavarretta Signed Baseball Cubs – COA

Presented is an ONL (White) baseball autographed by Phil Cavarretta.  He signed it on the sweet spot in blue ballpoint pen (“9”). “He inscribed the ball Phil Cavarretta” with the inscription “M.V.P. 1945”. The ball itself shows toning from age.

Phil Cavarretta played first base, outfielder, and manager. He was known to friends and family as “Phil” and was also called “Philibuck”, a nickname bestowed by Cubs manager Charlie Grimm. He spent almost his entire baseball career with the Chicago Cubs. He was voted the 1945 National League Most Valuable Player after leading the Cubs to the pennant while winning the batting title with a .355 average.  Cavarretta won MVP of the National League in 1945, the last time the Cubs had won the pennant since 2016. Cavarretta was an All Star four different times during his 20 year Cubs career, and was known for his speed and his terrific defense. His 20 seasons (1934–1953) played for the Cubs is the second-most in franchise history, behind Cap Anson. He managed the Cubs in his final three seasons with the club.
