Description

William H. Perkins, Jr. (1921-2009) was an esteemed and well-respected lobbyist, historian, and humanitarian. During his 50-year career,  he amassed one of largest private collections of presidential and political memorabilia. He was present at the founding of the United Nations. Mr. Perkins had the honor to meet 11 United States Presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Bill Clinton. Presented are items direct from his renowned collection.

Presented is a bill signing pen used by President Dwight D. Eisenhower from Perkins’ collection. It is one of Eisenhower’s signature 6.125″ Estabrook pen with steel nib inscribed, in white, “The President – The White House” on the clear handle. The original red box is also included.

According to the provenance letter, it was used by President Eisenhower to sign Bill HR 9517 which was for an allocation of money ($50k) to the Visiting Nurse Association. The letter itself is on White House stationary from the director of Public Relations Earle Chesney and dates to July 7, 1954. It was written to Edward McGinnis who was the Director of Public Relations for the American Legion at the time. As per the distribution request in the letter, the pen was later given to Perkins from McGinnis. Overall, a tremendous piece of history from the hand of Eisenhower.
