Description

President John F. Kennedy struggled all his life with various health problems. Just one of these sufferings was Addison’s disease, which he and his political camp repeatedly denied. This was one of his greatest physical challenges throughout his entire life.

Presented is one of Kennedy’s X-ray images taken at Halley Laboratories in London on Oct. 2, 1947. It was originally auctioned by Julien’s Auction in October 2010 (sold for $13,500).

This X-ray was when doctors gave him the news he had Addison’s in 1947, as a young congressman Kennedy collapsed in London. Sir Daniel Davis, Kennedy’s physician in London, took X-rays and ran diagnostic tests.

After reviewing these tests, Dr. Davis promptly diagnosed Kennedy with the disease and told Kennedy’s friend, “That young American friend of yours…he hasn’t got a year to live.” Kennedy personally carried back these X-rays to the United States aboard the Queen Mary.
