PSA 6 “E. R. Williams” – Welch/Ward
Out of stock
Shortly following the initial surge of tobacco-borne baseball images in the mid-1880’s, there was an interlude in enthusiasm for trading cards. However, one enterprise emerged to copyright a creation in 1889 as a non-insert production. A company calling itself “E. R. Williams” crafted a parlor game necessitating a deck of 52 cards. Of those, 19 featured portraits of universally known ballplayers – two players per card. Drawn from the game’s two major leagues – the American Association and the National League – many of these pioneers of the pastime eventually gained recognition in the Hall of Fame. The following four catalog entries showcase four different of these cards – each bearing at least one HOFer. These have been assessed by PSA, and for each we’ll provide the technical qualifications in an attempt to substantiate their evaluation.
“E. R. Williams” – #13 Curt Welch and Monte Ward. PSA EX-MT 6. Precisely graded with only light staining.
