Randy Johnson agreed to a four-year contract, with an option for a fifth year, for $52.4 million, with the Arizona Diamondbacks, a second-year franchise. Johnson led the team to the playoffs that year on the strength of a 17–9 record and 2.48 ERA with 364 strikeouts, leading the majors in innings, complete games, and strikeouts. Johnson won the 1999 NL Cy Young Award and Warren Spahn Award as the best left-handed pitcher in MLB.
While in the prime of his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks during the 2000 season, Johnson added another Cy Young to his belt (he continued a run of four consecutive 1999-2002). In 2000 the Diamondbacks looked to improve on a 100-win season in 1999 and they came out of the gates gunning for a World Series title. Johnson tied a modern record with six victories in April and would lead the league in strikeouts with 347 and in winning percentage. He finally got his World Series ring in 2001 with the Diamondbacks.
Presented is one of the toughest jerseys to obtain in the MLB, Randy Johnson’s game-used jerseys from that 1999-00 era during the prime time of his career. The front chest sports colorful purple/green/white tackle twill in “DIAMOND BACKS” with his number “51” in purple and green. The verso has a similar styling of “JOHNSON” on the nameplate and “51” below.
The Diamondbacks logo patch is on the left sleeve. The lower left front tail features “Russell Athletic” label [size] 50 with three flap tags with “2”Extra Length and fabric (100% Polyester). The jersey shows excellent game use with identifier puckering and thread fraying. Overall, an unique style of gamer that demonstrates the dominant striking force of the diamondback as well as colorful southwestern charm of HOFer Randy Johnson on the mound.
The RUSSELL ATHLETIC tagging is appropriate for the era. Size “50” is also an acceptable size for Randy Johnson.
