Beautiful piece of New York sporting history which bears witness to the dual-dynasty dreams of bigger-than-life Yankees owner, Dan Topping. Topping spent the good part of a decade fighting the Mara family and the NFL to secure a Big Apple franchise to exploit the city and his Yankees name. He finally succeeded by purchasing a New York franchise in the newly founded All-American Footbal Conference (AAFC). The team would initially play their home games in Yankee stadium and enjoy the notoriety that comes with sharing the moniker of the most glorious franchise in sports history; they would also share their success on the field, winning conference titles and far outshining the woeful NFL Giants (and football Dodgers) teams of the late-40s. This is not a run-of-the-mill stadium souvenir, but an extremely high quality piece of authentic memorabilia from the defunct AAFC team and league and a stellar example of late-40s design and haute coiture, created for the Bomber’s most highbrow patrons and fans, and most likely, specifically for Yankees’ wives in both organizations. Topping was a big-spender and clotheshorse, and this fits his taste for both quality and promotion. Measures a full 33 x 34 inches in heavy silk, with bold brilliant block color in reds, whites, and blues, and stitched tag stating “Designed Exclusively for the NY Yankees.” Baseball Yankees ‘tophat and cane’ logo is featured in the foreground and Football Yankees logos command the border. Exceptional vintage piece and display and undoubtedly the finest known. Likely unique. NrMT/MT.
