Description

Although Ty Cobb’s hits record was surpassed by Pete Rose, one of his batting marks will surely live on for decades. When Cobb concluded his big league career, after 24 years, he had maintained a sizzling .367 lifetime batting average. The top hitters in the league don’t approach .367, much less average that mark year in and year out.  Presented is a unique Ty Cobb autographed matted display.

The main feature is a 1949 New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox scorecard from Yankee Stadium. The scorecard has a standard central booklet crease and shows some aging. One of the guests of the game that day was the aforementioned Ty Cobb. Although a Tiger at heart, he honorably signed the Yankee section in blue ink “8” (yes, surprisingly not in his trademark green) for a friend, “To Johnny From His Friend – Ty Cobb 10/1/49.”

Consequently Cobb picked the winning team’s section, as the Yankees beat the Sox that day 5-4 behind a Joe DiMaggio double, a Johnny Lindell homer and a Yogi Berra RBI. The display also features a b&w photo (matted 7×8) of Cobb (scorecard matted is 9.5″ x 13″).

Authentication: JSA Full LOA.
