Sandy Koufax and Maury Wills Signed Sports Illustrated

Out of stock

SKU: 37313 Category:

By May of 1967, when Sports Illustrated decided to do a cover story on the Dodgers franchise that had reached the World Series in 1959, 1963, 1965 and 1966 (and won the first three of those), two of the biggest stars of those teams, Sandy Koufax and Maury Wills, had already established themselves in baseball folkyore. Koufax’s left arm gave him a fastball that was almost unhittable (2,396 strike outs in 2,324 big league innings) and Wills’ legs and instincts enabled him to steal a mind-boggling 104 bases in 1962 alone. The two signed the May 15, 1967, cover of SI with blue felt tip pens. The magazine is in near mint condition. Koufax’s signature, which comes with the very rare note “HOF 72”, and rates a nine while Wills’ penmanship, which comes with the note “MVP ’62”, was written against a less receptive background and rates a nine.
