Rare official Acme wire photo documenting DiMaggio’s first appearance in a New York Yankees uniform. Dated “4/14/36”, a youthful Clipper is depicted aside fellow rookie Buddy Lewis prior to the start of the Yankee’s Opening Day game versus the Senators. Entitled “Outstanding Yankee Addition”, this crisp vintage photo measures 7 x 8-7/8″ and is offered in EX/MT condition, displaying only minor handling. Includes original tag stating, “Joe DiMaggio, for whom the Yankees paid a fabulous sum, and Buddy Lewis, outstanding rookie addition to the Senators, are shown before the game between the Senators and the Yanks, at Washington, April 14th. The Senators won, 1-0.” DiMaggio would prove to be a sensation, lending his formidable skills to a 102-win season and another World Championship in the Bronx. In addition, DiMaggio has provided a perfect example of his autograph rendered in blue felt tip (“10′). Important on a number of levels, this piece definitely represents step-one of one of the most celebrated careers in the history of professional sport.
