Description
Presented is a program from the historic Sonny Liston vs. Cassius Clay match-up. This scarce closed circuit edition is from Fight I held on 2/25/64 and is decorated with incredible cover art of the battle stars. There is also a scrolling banner proclaiming the event as “Souvenir Program, Sonny Liston vs. Cassius Clay, World’s Heavyweight Championship on Theatre Network Television, One Dollar”. The interior features images of Ali, Liston, Marciano, Patterson and others along with an interesting section on fight radio announcer Howard Cosell.
The program presents in full original colors with the only detriment being minor interior moisture wear. In the fight, underdog Cassius Clay (aka Muhammad Ali) shocked the experts by scoring a TKO victory over Sonny Liston winning his first heavyweight title. When Liston failed to come out for the seventh round Clay responded by performing his trademark “Ali shuffle” and yelling repeatedly “I’m the greatest” and ”I shook up the world”.
