Description

The 1953 St. Louis Browns season was a season in American baseball. It involved the Browns finishing 8th in the American League with a record of 54 wins and 100 losses, 46½ games behind the AL and World Series champion New York Yankees in their 52nd and final season in the Gateway City. After the season, the Browns moved to Baltimore, where they play today, and became the Baltimore Orioles.

When Bill Veeck bought an 80% interest in the St. Louis Browns he soon signed Satchel Paige. In his first game back in the major leagues, on July 18, 1951, against the Washington Senators, Paige pitched six innings of shutout baseball until the seventh when he gave up three runs. He ended the season with a 3–4 record and a 4.79 ERA

Presented is a 1953 St. Louis Official Score Book and it was signed by Satchel Paige, Bobo Holloman, Billy Hunter, Lou Kretlow and one other. All of the autographs are in ballpoint pen and grade 6-7.  Of note, Bobo Holloman  is one of three pitchers to throw a no-hitter in their first major league start. The program itself shows handling wear throughout.
