After delivering an MVP performance, Young could finally take his place among the game’s greats. According to Young and his Charity, this jersey was game used that fateful season. This white “Wilson [size] 44” mesh jersey is accompanied by a Charity Forever Young Foundation letter, on Charity stationery signed by Executive Assistant, Shamberlin Young, states this jersey was worn in 1994. This charity is run by Steve Young and his family.
Light use is shown with some puckering on the single color tackle twill numbers. “Young” is applied to an elongated nameplate in single-color red. Sewn over the breast is an NFL 75th anniversary patch used during the ’94 season. Note the patch is sewn on above the chest line seam. Two labels appear in the tail: Wilson and size flap size tag. Flap tag reads “44 DT”
Based on the “DT” coding this jersey was made in June of “91. The “W” on the front of the sleeve is dated ’92 and ’93 style. Young typically wore the “75th patch” below the chest seam. This jersey the Patch is above the chest seam. Young was also shortening the sleeves in ’94, however, we see examples from Heritage that show sleeves with the 3 stripe bands in tact on the sleeve without the ELASTICIZED waistband.
Typically sleeves on Young gamers were at one point cut or slit. The sleeves shown here have had some type of modification.
Although our patch placement is slightly higher than most examplars during this season, it does not negate the fact that this was worn by Young at some point during the 1994 NFL Season or Pre-Season. Based on the impeccable provenance, which is the player himself, as stated in the letter, this jersey was game-worn. So to note, we can use these variations and add them to our examplar file on Young gamers during the season.
