The Mummy Model Kit Box w/ Instructions – Billiken 1989

Tom Killeen is well known in the film industry as a movie magic specialist. Killeen works behind the scenes of the art department tirelessly. He is known for creating and painting designs that help actors morph into the characters they portray or transforming the entire imaginary world around them.  Among many films, he has worked on I Am Legend (2007), Independence Day (1996) and The Chronicles of Riddick (2004).

Presented are items from his personal collection. Some of the items are direct from film sets and others are project models he has worked on. The work on the props and models are beyond hobbyist as these pieces were touched by Killeen who has a highly technical and advanced artist skill. He is now ready to bring his form of art to market and have it appreciated by all the movie buffs or monster collectors out there.

From Killeen’s collection is this Mummy statue from a Billiken model kit – Horror World (1145). It’s painted professionally by Killeen.

Billiken of Japan released their Mummy model 29 years ago under full license from Universal Studios, choosing to depict Lon Chaney, Jr’s portrayal of the awful Egyptian. (Fear film fans fondly recall Chaney’s three performances as the ancient evil in “The Mummy’s Tomb,” “The Mummy’s Ghost,” and “The Mummy’s Curse” throughout the early ’40’s.)

Billiken’s Mummy is an exact 1/6 scale replica of Kharis, standing 12 1/2″ tall x 6″ wide once assembled. Each aspect of the character is crisply realized – Chaney’s weight and bulk, his dead right arm, that dragging foot, wrinkly face, mucked-up eye – all spot-on.

The model is flawlessly molded in white PVC vinyl, and like many of his Billiken brothers, this Mummy is designed with swiveling joints at the neck, waist, shoulders, left wrist, and knees, allowing for a variety of powerful poses. The original box is included.
