Tony Gwynn Game-Worn, Dated 5/1/99, Signed Helmet

Bad knees began to take their toll on Tony Gwynn as his career approached twilight. Despite losing a step or two in his stride, Gwynn was still one of the game’s best hitters. In 1999, he played in 111 games, as he eclipsed the 3,000 hit mark. This particular [size] “7 1/8” helmet shows great use with a multitude of surface scratches evenly dispersed throughout. It was also the helmet in which Gwynn reached hit 2,964 against the Chicago Cubs May 1, 1999. This is all documented on the inside cushion in black felt tip. An “ABC” sticker and “19” decal are placed on the back of the helmet. Gwynn finished off this high-profile piece with a silver paint pen signature (“9”).
