Description

Offered is this remarkable signature cut of the Three Stooges. The Stooges got their name and start in a vaudeville act called Ted Healy and his Stooges. Brothers Moe Howard (Moe) and Shemp Howard (Shemp) were later joined by Larry Fine. The original Three Stooges split from Healy, signing on with Columbia Pictures where they went on to star in over 190 theatrical short movies. When Shemp left the act, he was replaced by his younger brother Jerome, who shaved his head and moustache and adopted the name “Curly.” His span with the Stooges extended from 1934–1946 before a stroke resulted in retirement. Shemp rejoined the troop and the Stooges continued. The signature we offer here is on a leaf that appears to have been removed from an autograph album. There is no date identifier on either side of the sheet, but the signatures are consistent with examples signed in the early-to-mid 1930’s. Unlike other examples, the unique quality of this offering is that each Stooge has added his surname. Unlike official documents the trio had signed, this one was penned “Larry (Fuzzy) Fine, Moe (Stooge) Howard, and Jerry Curly Howard.” This outstanding piece was examined by JSA which assured its authenticity each signature grade 9-10. Each signature was singed in grey graphite pencil on a 4 1/2″ x6″ v on tan colored page. Full JSA LETTER
