Vintage Cleveland Indians Ephemera (Satchel Paige et al.)
Out of stock
A “variegated assortment of elderly souvenirs” best defines this holding. All of it relates to the Cleveland Indians of the post-war era and, individually, its elements promise impressive decor for the Indians devotee. In closer detail, there are included here:
trong>1) Light-gauge steel cigarette case. This is a Mint-in-Box souvenir that bears the team’s logo of the late-40s.
trong>2) Glass jar holding dirt salvaged from Municipal Stadium’s pitching mound (final game Sept. 21, 1996). Nicely applied labels identifying the substance and significance. Total weight (w/jar) is 8.2 oz.
trong>3) Uniquely designed ticket stub collage. Mounted on very firm cardboard, this piece measures 11″ x 14″, and it bears Municipal Stadium ticket stubs (in varying conditions) from the ’40s through the ’80s.
trong>4) 1942 IRS tax report, pertinent to the Cleveland Indians’ gate receipts for March (Spring Training at Clearwater), with single-sheet typed summary.
trong>5) 1940s rubber “squeeze” souvenir Indians figure (about 7″ tall). Cute, but in somewhat reduced condition (missing the ‘squeeker’ on the back; the headfeather is detached; and the piece will not free-stand). However, there are no tears or punctures, and the painted detailing is satisfactory. Especially lovable is the now politically insensitive scalp (in the grasp of his left hand).
trong>6) Satchel Paige’s Pitchin’ Man (1948, paperbound). Front cover is detached, and back cover is missing.
trong>7) 1944 Indians Spring Training schedule. Three-panel fold-out (to 10-1/2″ x 6-1/2″). Includes schedule and roster with vital statistics. VG.
trong>8) 1952 Cleveland Indians World Series phantom ticket. Full ticket, of course, for Game 4. Possibly a “proof” – mild corner wear, but this ducat is clean, with no creases – EX.
trong>9) 1945 Jeff Heath player contract. Fully executed (but after the ’45 season had already started). Signed by Heath, Indians’ VP Roger Peckinpaugh, and league president, trong>Will Harridge (along with the latter’s stamped simulation). This contract (VG/EX-EX) documents the typed addendum of Heath’s trade to the Senators (Dec. 14, 1945).
trong>10) Game 5 of the 1948 World Series scorecard. This was an independently distributed scorecard (not the one published with the standard program). It’s neatly scored in the game’s entirety, and it reflects the relief pitching of Satchel Paige who hurled 2/3 inning (in the 7th), effectively slamming the door on the Braves’ hitting onslaught. This scorecard testifies to Satchel Paige’s only World Series appearance. The sheet has two abnormal, horizontal compacting folds – about VG.
