Wilfredo Gomez sometimes referred to as Bazooka Gómez, is a Puerto Rican former professional boxer and three-time world champion. He is frequently mentioned among the best Puerto Rican boxers of all time by sports journalists and analysts, along with Félix Trinidad, Miguel Cotto, Wilfred Benítez, Esteban De Jesús, Edwin Rosario and Carlos Ortíz. His seventeen consecutive knockouts in championship defenses is a record for all boxing divisions. He was ranked number 13 on The Ring magazine’s list of the “100 greatest punchers of all time”.In 1995, Gómez was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Presented is a ring Wilfredo Gomez received in 1984 in celebration of the WBC Championship that he won against Juan Laporte. It is a World Championship ring given to him for his second WBC World Title. The ring is made in 10K gold which is customary for people with strong hands. The face has a plaque of onyx and features a man with his glove raised above a diamond setting. WBC is below it surrounded by 25+ small genuine lab created diamonds. The top and bottom celebrates World Champion with genuine lab (2) diamonds, (4) lab emeralds and (4) lab rubies clusters on the sides. Each of the flanks also have clusters of genuine lab diamonds on the sides. One flank (side) has the World Boxing Counsel with 40+ small genuine lab created diamonds. The back side has 15+ lab diamonds and the other flank features WBC and an additional 20+ lab diamonds. There are apporox. 3.00 cts. of 150 pave set full cut round diamonds total in H-I color and VS clarity.
A personal letter signed by Gomez attends for provenance that it belonged to him.
The letter indicates it was given to him after the 1984 match against Juan Laporte in San Juan Puerto Rico.
