William Lucking, who recently passed away played Piney Winston in FX’s Sons of Anarchy (2008–2011) and had 100-plus other film and TV credits during a nearly half-century career. Throughout his lengthy career in Hollywood, he portrayed a diverse range of characters on the big and small screens including 1976’s Oklahoma Crude, opposite Faye Dunaway; the original Colonel Lynch in NBC’s The A-Team in the ’80s; and in different roles in the Star Trek series Deep Space 9 and Enterprise during the 1990s and 2000s, respectively.
Lucking began his career in the late 1960s and early ’70s with guest roles on such popular series as Mission: Impossible, Ironside, The Virginian, The Partridge Family, and Bonanza. He continued to work regularly in films and television through the ensuing decades, with roles on series including Kojak, Gunsmoke, M*A*S*H, CHiPs, and The Waltons, such movies as Doc Savage: Man of Bronze, Extreme Justice, and The River Wild. He was also known for his movie roles in The Magnificent Seven Ride (1972), and The Rundown (2003).
During his career, Lucking brilliantly gathered in person some mementos from his work including many items that he wore and obtained from his role in Sons of Anarchy. Some of the items were signed and personalized to him as a testament to their respect and kinship. Every celebrity has a story as well as every item he obtained. Here now is one of those legacy pieces for your collection.
Presented is an iconic piece from the Sons of Anarchy that Lucking had in his collection. It was the centerpiece of his collection and it was his original biker’s jean jacket vest (aka cut) that he wore in the television series. The item was custom made for him and is sans tagging.
On the front it features embroidered patches on the front reading “REDWOOD” (chapter) and “ORIGINAL” above the right pocket as well as “FIRST 9” (founding member) above the left pocket. The front part also has a skull reaper pin affixed along the button path along with a pocket chain.
The back showcases a spine tingling biker gang style colors (patchwork logo) with “SONS OF ANARCHY” (name of club) in blue blazing on the top of a white rocker banner, a “MC” (motorcycle club) rocker logo and a bottom “CALIFORNIA” (area of rule) rocker banner below. The two rocker banners sandwich a ghastly skull reaper toting a gun as the central emblem image. Note, a three piece patch top/bottom and M.C. on a jacket like this indicates it is an outlaw club. The jacket shows great wear overall by Lucking as well as distressed costume wear.
Also to note, a photomatch from one of the episodes completes the provenance as an autographed photo of Lucking’s character at the bar shows him wearing the jacket. The 8×10 color promotional photo was autographed by Lucking in black felt tip (“9”) for added measure.
To complete the wonderous display with amazing provenance, there are (10) signatures on the front acrylic personalized to Lucking in black/silver or red felt tip. Many of the autographs include their character names as well as a salutation including Kim Coates ” Tig”; Ron Perlman “Clay”; Charlie Hunnam; Theo Rossi “Juice”; Katey Sagal “Gemma”; Tommy Flanagan “Chibs”; Dayton Callie and three others.
A provenance letter is included from Singred Insull (Lucking’s wife). The letter attests to how the items in the collection were worn and gifted to Lucking from the cast/crew of the television series.
The display measures in at 29″ x 38.25″ with a 3.75″ depth of the shadowbox.
