Wings Over America – Paul McCartney Tour Program
Out of stock
We are pleased to present a very scarce and special tour program entitled “Wings over America.” The program is completely original and intact. The cover displays some wear which is minimal at best. The inside 30 pages are packed with beautiful color pictures of Paul and Linda, Denny Laine, Joe English and Jimmy McCulloch – on stage, in the studio, around London and on McCartney’s farm. “Wings Over America” was the title given to the American leg of the tremendous “Wings Over The World” tour. The world tour actually began in England in September 1975 and continued through January 1976. Wings then took a break and went back into Abbey Road Studio and spent the next two months recording their highly successful “Wings At The Speed Of Sound” album. They literally went straight from the studio and got back on the road. The tour continued through Europe. When the news broke that Paul McCartney and Wings were going to do a large scale tour of the United States, the excitement that The Beatles created the previous decade was back. Soon headlines like “McCartney’s Back” were appearing on the covers of every magazine and newspaper. The American tour started on May 5th and ran through June 22nd. For the band it was like no other previous tour as the McCartney’s did something that was never done before – they took their children on the road with them. In order to maintain the family atmosphere, Paul and Linda rented homes in New York, Dallas, Chicago and Los Angeles. Every night, they used their private jet to that night’s venue, and then returned when the show was over. On stage they performed an excellent mix of Wings hits and classic Beatles hits. One of the highlighted events of this tour took place the night of Paul’s birthday, June 18th, when an astounded audience witnessed McCartney and Wings joined on stage by Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Mick Jagger, Brian Ferry and Jeff Beck. This tour program is a wonderful reminder of a time in music that is long gone. At the time of this writing, Paul McCartney is back on the road and will be touring America again. The 1976 Tour was his first solo world tour. It’s hard to believe, 30 years later, he is still rocking to sellout audiences. As with the Beatles arrival in 1964, the world was in a mess, both economically and politically. It took a former Beatle to get the good times rolling again.
