Oakland Seals Game-Worn Jacket – COA 100% Authentic Team

The California Golden Seals competed in the National Hockey League (NHL) FROM 1967-76. Initially named California Seals, the team was renamed Oakland Seals partway through the 1967–68 season (on December 8, 1967), and then to California Golden Seals in 1970, after two games as the Bay Area Seals. The Seals were one of six teams added to the league as part of the 1967 NHL expansion. Based in Oakland, California, they played their home games at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Arena.

While the WHL Seals had drawn well at the Cow Palace, the team drew poorly in Oakland once they entered the NHL. The plan to bring fans in from San Francisco failed, and on November 6, 1967, Van Gerbig announced that the team’s name would be changed to the Oakland Seals (although the league did not register the change until December) to focus more on the East Bay.

Presented is an original Oakland Seals game worn jacket. It is a green satin style jacket with a wool textured interior. Interior tagging is McAuliffe which is post-1969 to 1976. It further dates it to the Oakland time period by the color scheme of green, yellow and white. It is a [size] 44. Although it is unattributed to a specific player, there is a handwritten name in pen Rich Gonzales on one of the tags. More than likely, it was a coach that wore it on the sidelines to keep warm. The collar has a trio of elastic in the team’s colors green, white and yellow. The front has the “Seals” logo in white single white tackle twill. There is nice leather accents on the front pockets in the shape of an arrow. Overall, a rare find from a brief but memorable team.
