Tami Erin Screen-Worn Costume Outfit 1988 The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking

The character Pippi Longstocking is a playful unpredictable being who is red-haired, freckled and superhumanly strong. Indeed able to lift her horse one-handed.  She often makes fun of unreasonable adults, especially if they are pompous and condescending. Her anger comes out in extreme cases, such as when a man mistreats his horse. Pippi, like Peter Pan, does not want to grow up. She is the daughter of a buccaneer captain and has adventure stories to tell about that, too. 

The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking is a 1988 musical adventure film written and directed by Ken Annakin, based on the Pippi Longstocking book series by Astrid Lindgren. It is a Swedish-German-American joint venture produced by Columbia Pictures, Longstocking Productions, and Svensk Filmindustri. While the title suggests a continuation of previous entries, it is in fact a remake of the original story.

The film is light-hearted and often silly. After all, the Pippi books are silly and light-hearted, so why shouldn’t a movie version be? Pippi is a great character study for kids: She is imaginative, creative, confident and above all, a good-willed and courteous child. The character of Pippi in this 1988 musical adventure film was played by Tami Erin.

Presented from Tami Erin’s collection is this wonderful Pippi Longstocking costume she wore in the film, The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking. Preserved for 34 years now, it is finally time to unleash the cherished costume well tangled with the character’s charm. The costume will include a letter of provenance from Erin. The obviousness is that it is a custom patchwork style.

The main torso section is a red button down blouse with a flouncy bottom. The blouse features custom sewn-on patches. Layered on top of the blouse is a floral apron-like coverall. The bottom portion features custom green pantaloons with lace highlights. The pantaloons are clipped to her orange and blue patched leggings to top off the shoes. Lastly, her well worn brown leather shoes are also included.
